Widening Participation (WP) - raising the aspirations and attainment of people from backgrounds that are under-represented in higher education - is a major component of government education policy in the UK and Europe.
This collaborative cluster (led by the University of Edinburgh, in collaboration with the Universities of Glasgow and Aberdeen) aimed to explore how the use of lecture recording can support WP students by enabling greater flexibility for learners.
The cluster adopted a broad definition of WP that encompassed equality, diversity and inclusion.

Due to the COVID-19 lockdown, the face-to-face workshop scheduled for 15 May 2020 was hosted on Zoom. Over 80 colleagues from Scotland and beyond joined us for plenary and breakout sessions during the afternoon, sharing a rich range of perspectives and practice.
In the first of these videos, the cluster team provided an update on work to date, including background to the project and the initial findings from student focus groups.
The second video illustrated the approach taken to Widening Participation at the University of Glasgow.
In the final video, Dr Emily Nordmann (University of Glasgow) gave a quick overview of principles to support inclusiveness in the move to online teaching.

This video presentation described the work of the Collaborative Cluster looking at Widening Participation with Lecture Recording and the response to the COIVD-19 pandemic. In this presentation we summarised the work of the cluster so far, the perspective of the HE sector, the student experience, and where we want to go in future.
