Student Transitions

Our current Enhancement Theme is Student Transitions. This Theme was launched at the Enhancement Themes conference in June 2014 and will run for the next three academic years. This Theme is an ambitious and comprehensive venture and focuses on transitions into, out of, and during university. The work is managed by QAA Scotland along with the Theme Leaders Group (TLG) which comprises members from each higher education institution plus two student members. This group is Chaired by Professor Roni Bamber, Queen Margaret University.

In each year of the Student Transitions Theme the Student Network will produce two projects which can be used as a resource by the sector. In the first year of the Theme the Network held an event for care leavers and produced examples of good practice in postgraduate transitions. The latter is an ongoing resource which we encourage students and staff to add to.

Year 1 projects

Year 2 projects

  • Student Perspectives of Transitions
Network members created a survey around what makes a good/bad transition and what advice would you give to a new student. A report will be produced from the findings and circulated to staff and student associations in the Scottish HE sector.
  • Supporting student transitions
Members of the Student Network are providing examples of how their Student Unions support transitions faced by all types of students. These examples will be complied into a printed booklet with an online version and sent out to all the Student Unions.
