Student transitions from further to higher education can be challenging, requiring targeted and holistic support from institutions. In the 2014/15 academic year, Edinburgh Napier University took in an estimated 885 students from various Colleges. 683 of those go straight into second or third year. While articulation routes at Edinburgh Napier are to be praised, they have highlighted a number of support needs in terms of: overcoming social barriers, adapting to a new learning environment, increased independent study expectations, adjusting to different teaching styles and methods and a higher level of academic study.
