This publication is the first of two volumes entitled ‘Reflections on Assessment’ containing details of a series of workshops and scoping studies which provided a focus for much of the work on the Enhancement Theme of Assessment. The work summarises the key issues that emerged during the Theme along with suggestions as to ways in which each might be tackled.

The document contains an overview together with the presentations and case studies from workshops 1-4 from the Assessment Theme:
  • Workshop 1 - Streamlining assessment - how to make assessment more efficient and more effective
  • Workshop 2 - Using assessment to motivate learning
  • Workshop 3 - Constructive alignment of learning outcomes to assessment methods
  • Workshop 4 - Developing a variety of assessment methods, including self and peer-assessment
